Silkflower Hairpin FAQs

  • Traditionally, silk flowers are made with mulberry worm silk, or synthetic silk. To ensure affordability and sustainability (as traditional silk processing is a major consumer of water), most of our silkflower accessories use what is commonly known as “pipecleaners” to achieve the same result.

  • The metal wire we use is tarnish-resistant, so simply dry them off by leaving them on an open surface.

The fiber portion, luckily, can be dried with a blow-dryer!

  • Most of the silkflower hairpins are bridal hairpins, either using traditional U-pin structures or as a bobby pin for simplified application. These are meant to be used as larger sets.

Longer U-pins and wavy pins can hold most medium to meidum-long hair depending on how you wear them.

  • Avoid forcing your hairpin to hold more hair than it can. You’ll notice if the tension is getting high. If you feel like you need to forcefully bend the hairpin for it to stay, there’s probably too much hair.

Minor adjustment and bending is fine, but avoid repeatedly bending and changing them back, or making severe, sharp bends, because those would significantly reduce the metal’s lifespan.
